Extrapolation 6
Located in Montreal, Quebec
Guillaume Lachapelle’s work combines the real and the imaginary to create miniature environments and scenarios that showcase connections between humans and their everyday worlds. In Extrapolations, Lachapelle extracts seemingly mundane mechanical objects from a typical cityscape – such as radiators, fire hydrants, and balconies – and manipulates their appearance by creating 3D printed models that visually oscillate between the magical and the monstrous. In some of his sculptures, Lachapelle uses photogrammetry – a method that scans a series of two-dimensional photographs or images to create three-dimensional models. While photogrammetry typically enables real-life objects to be accurately reproduced, the artist challenges this paradigm by tampering with the machine’s process, both by accepting the machine’s glitches and by triggering them. When scanning images, the results may not always be what is anticipated, however, for Lachapelle it is about welcoming the unknown. In several examples, he encourages the program to read screenshots of images and extrapolates what should be there, filling in blank data with added images and various shapes. The resulting sculptures are symmetrical and geometric, appearing uncannily familiar like human vertebrae, yet unfamiliar in fantastical abstracted forms. The sculptures merge between two different worlds, bridging human and machine through unexpected adaptations to everyday things. Extrapolations balances between this duality, ultimately reflecting on the increasing dependency humans have on technology in our everyday world. For Lachapelle, this is especially pertinent in a world where technology is continuously developing. The sculptures highlight the dynamic and everchanging relationship between humans and technology, making us question this reliance on technology. In this exhibition, Lachapelle also introduces the inclusion of human characters back into his art practice. He places people in unnatural and impossible exchanges with machines and technology. For instance, while in past exhibitions, he has usually tried to conceal the electronic components that make moving pieces...

Publisher GKM. Edition of 75 ex. Free shipment worldwide. Acquired directly from the artist. William Sweetlove, born in Ostend, Belgium, in 1949, unites dadaism with surrealism and pop art in humoristic sculptures that at first sight may seem “kitschy”. However, closer familiarity with his works reveals their role as a creative antidote to the overproduction and overconsumption of our society. With his cloned animals William Sweetlove calls for greater ecological awareness and urges us to reflect on the consequences of the climate change challengeing humanity. His cloned dogs wear boots since the sea level rises and the penguins carry water bottles since we are runnig out of drinking water. William Sweetlove has had exhibitions at art fairs, galleries and museums all over the world. His works are found in several private art collections. He has also participated in different art manifestations worldwide together with the Italian Cracking Art...

Constructing immersive installations, he engages with and re-imagines canonical imagery through contemporary technology. Landscape painting, classical sculpture and iconography are some of the historical aesthetics that serve as a point of departure for Quayola’s hybrid compositions. His varied practice, all deriving from custom computer software, also includes audiovisual performance, immersive video installations, sculpture, and works on paper. His work has been performed and exhibited in many prestigious institutions worldwide including V&A Museum, London; Park Avenue Armory, New York; National Art Center, Tokyo; UCCA, Beijing; How Art Museum, Shanghai; SeMA, Seoul; Palais de Tokyo, Paris; Ars Electronica, Linz; Sonar Festival, Barcelona and Sundance Film Festival. "Transcendent", Frederick Hart, Acrylic Sculpture, 19x11x9 in., 96/350, white
Located in Dallas, TX
"Transcendent" Dimensions: 19" x 11" x 9" Medium: Clear Acrylic Resin Edition 96/350 Frederick Hart's 1991 “Transcendent” lucite sculpture is imbued with a truly sublime presence. Female and male figures emerging from the Lucite seem to appear and disappear within the work. This ghostly effect is created through Hart’s unique process of embedment, which involves casting one acrylic work within another. It is a technique the artist patented in 1982, marking the end of a decade of constant experimentation and progression and the beginning of a period of precise refinement. Consistent with his unique poetic vision, the inner, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual forces dominate the work. Imbued with a distinct sense of grace, this piece is a testament to Hart’s remarkable technical abilities and devotion to the craft. Frederick Hart's "Transcendent" is signed by the artist and includes a gallery certificate of authenticity. It is from an edition of 350 (+ 60 AP) and the current gallery retail price for the piece is over $40,000. About Frederick Hart As one of America’s greatest representational artists, Frederick Hart left a lasting and unique mark in the world of modern sculpture. Born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1943, he studied at the University of South Carolina and after protesting alongside black students during the Civil rights movement, he moved to Washington D.C. to continue his studies at the Corcoran School of Art. Fascinated with the human figure and the classical approach, he started developing his career in 1966 as a stone carver apprentice at the National Cathedral in Washington D.C. Leaving the Cathedral in 1971, Hart started his own studio practice but had little success in the first years. In 1974, he was awarded the project by the Cathedral to create a contemporary interpretation of The Creation, an event that would change his life. Soon, Hart’s career took a turn for the better, and in the upcoming decades, he rose to national prominence, becoming a government art advisor in 1985 and receiving the prestigious Henry Hering...
