Aronson, David 1923-
David Aronson, son of a rabbi, was born in Lithuania in 1923 and immigrated to America at the age of five. He settled in Boston, Massachusetts where he studied at the school of the Museum of Fine Arts under Karl Zerbe, a German painter well known in the early 1900s. Aronson later taught at the school of the Museum of Fine Arts for fourteen years and founded the School of Fine Art at Boston University where he is today a professor emeritus. An internationally renowned sculptor & painter, Aronson has won acclaim for his interpretation of themes from the Hebrew Talmud and Kabala. His best known works include bronze castings, encaustic paintings, and pastels. His work is included in many important public and private collections, and has been shown in several museum retrospectives around the country. He is considered to be one of the most important 20th century American artists.
At twenty-two David Aronson had his first one-man show at New York's Niveau Gallery. The next year, six of his Christological paintings were included in the Fourteen Americans exhibition at Manhattan's Museum of Modern Art where Aronson’s work was included alongside abstract expressionists Arshile Gorky, Robert Motherwell and Isamu Noguchi. In the 1950s, Aronson turned more toward his Jewish heritage for the inspiration for his art. Folklore as well as Kabalistic and other transcendental writings influenced his work greatly. Steven Kemenyffy (born 1943) is an American ceramic artist living and working in Pennsylvania. He is most recognized for his contributions to the development of the American ceramic raku tradition. He has served as a Professor of Ceramic Art at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania (formerly Edinboro State College) since 1969. He Has retired from teaching, but continues to produce artwork at his home studio in McKean, Pennsylvania. Kemenyffy is often characterized in regard to his contributions to American experimental ceramics of the late 1960s and early 1970s. More specifically, Kemenyffy’s contributions to American raku techniques are often cited. Kemenyffy has stated that his interest in raku came out of practical considerations: “We [Steven and Susan] were doing a variety of workshops in a variety of different media. Raku was always an official way of making pieces in a short period of time…In raku it seems to compress all the firings into one.” Kemenyffy, himself, describes his early work as “Biomorphic forms alluding to old ceramic traditions such as tiles, vases, and containers.” These works were often in excess of six feet tall and many times included mixed media elements. In 1974, Kemenyffy wrote about the work he was producing; “For several years now, my work has dealt with certain formal considerations. Chief among these is using clay in such a way as to crystallize the moment and permanentize the impermanent. These have been among the primary concerns of all potters since the earliest times.” Today, Kemenyffy continues his pursuit of biomorphic imagery and themes. He writes, “Personally I am most challenged by the business of transforming porous organics into porcelain.” For much of Kemenyffy’s career, he has worked in tandem with his wife, Susan Hale Kemenyffy. In 1987 Susan stated about their collaborative works: “Steven is the [sculptor], I am the drawer. These works would not exist if it weren’t for the sculpture; if it weren’t for the clay. The clay entity comes first and my drawings come second.” James Paul Thompson further clarifies this relationship (as observed in 1987): “Steven Kemenyffy uses patterns as a point of departure for his work, while Susan Kemenyffy...

Born in 1911 of Provencal-Italian descent, the Stratford, Connecticut native received early inspiration from his father, a professional stone cutter. Pavia's sculptures are characterized by rough, chiseled bronze and marble, his father's trade was no doubt a significant influence. In fact, by 1934, his father was so enthusiastic about his son's passion that he encouraged young Philip to study at the Academia delle Belle Arti in Florence, Italy.
Before his studies in Europe, Pavia was briefly a student at Yale University but quickly dropped out and enrolled at New York's Art Student League. As an artist who knows no boundaries and whose art transcends any conventions, her creations are a blend of vitality and obsession, functional simplicity alongside expressive complexity bordering on surrealism. Her sources of inspiration are neither time nor place-dependent. They create a personal statement, a journey replete with meaning and they succeed in touching and moving people the world over.
Goor was born in Tiberias to an educated and distinguished family of highly respected doctors and artists. She never studied art or design in any formal setting. She developed her artistic techniques on her own from an early age, when she used various parts to create small statues. She is considered to be an international multidisciplinary artist. Her works encompass sculptures, furniture, judaica, lighting fixtures, jewelry and fashion items which are displayed in well known galleries worldwide and are distinguished by their powerful, dominant presence.
She first came to the United States in her 20s and captured the hearts of the locals with her large-buckle belts for men which paved her artistic path in North America. Since then Ilana Goor was requested to install statues in major public locations and exhibited her works in museums throughout Europe, America, Japan and Israel. Ilana Goor designed jewelry, buckles and sold belts to most major department stores in America including I Magnin, Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdale's, Macy's, Saks Fifth Ave. and in Japan.
In 1986 Ilana Goor introduced a collection of iron furniture and accessories to the American marketplace as limited editions signed by the artist.
She was awarded the Roscoe award for Best Design in residential seating in 1988.

John Kearney, 1924-2014, "Auto w/4 Passengers", Bronze, signed and dated "J. Kearney Roma '68."

Kearney was represented in Chicago, New York, the Berta Walker Gallery in Provincetown and in Wellfleet, His work is fashioned from chrome car bumpers, not the current plastic variety, but chrome plated steel, and welded into great and seemingly alive creatures; a little horse about to leap, a pig, large and strong, and, noble and kingly as it looks over the gallery, a life-size gorilla.
Now 78 years old, John and his wife Lynn founded the Contemporary Art Workshop 53 years ago in Chicago and have contributed through his art to the life and style of the Windy City. Chicago and environs is gifted with many pieces, noteably the city's Oz Park, wherein live the Tin Man and the bronze Cowardly Lion. his work is in the collections of Chicago's Museum of Contemporaray Art, the Detroit Children's Museum, the Chrysler Art Museum in Virginia, and the Provincetown Art Association and Museum, to name a few.
