About the Item

A powerful presentation piece, this stunning bust of Jean Bécu - Comtesse du Barry is both beautiful and tragic. Executed in terracotta that has been left natural and shows a complex range of color. It rests over an oval/ round shaped socle. French noble woman bust, in the style of Houdin/ French School. Madame du Barry was Louis XV's mistress renowned for her extreme beauty. Style of c. 1780, this bust seems to be a later impression of the 19th century.
