About the Item
Mark Hopkins' work reveals his total fascination with nearly every conceivable aspect of life: from history, children, sports, music and religion to wildlife of the land, sea and air. He intends his work to be flowing and alive, a passionate and expressive of the artist himself.
For as long as he can remember, Mark has been captivated by form and design. From the time he was young boy, with the encouragement of family and teachers, he worked to develop his innate talent, and explore the various techniques and mediums of sculpture.
In addition to sculpting, Mark has made himself a technical expert in the art of "lost wax" bronze casting. At the Mark Hopkins Sculpture foundry, he monitors the casting process, insuring that the integrity of his work is maintained throughout its creation in bronze. With the help of many talented craftsmen, Mark endeavors to establish an enduring legacy of high-quality bronze sculpture.
It has taken half a lifetime for Mark to be able to devote full time to his art. For many years, the necessity of providing for his large family took him into other, more traditional vocations. Throughout those years, though, he never stopped sculpting as he believed it was the work he was born to do.
Mark Hopkins constantly challenges himself to translate the richness of life and nobility of the human soul into enduring sculptural form. In his words, "I strive to express beyond the image, to catch spirit, to reveal deeper emotions, and to share joy."

Grandfather's Land, 2021
Bronze, patina, crepe myrtle, paint, wax
30 x 46 x 18 inches
For over 30 years, sculptor Sherry Owens has used the sinewy crepe myrtle tree to tell her story of the Texas landscape, death, renewal, beauty, and of today’s growing environmental concerns. Remnants of personal stories, visions and observations in nature are the driving forces in her work. She believes that what we see and do in our daily lives leaves a mark on our planet. It is the direct impact of human activities on the natural world, which is visualized in her artistic practice. She creates connections with nature using crepe myrtle trees found along the side of the road. Each stick is hand-carved and cut to fit, then laid in place and secured with a small myrtle peg. What takes precedence in the laborious process is the importance of detail and evidence of the artist’s hand and her interaction with the materials.
Sherry Owens is a native Texan, currently living and working in Dallas, TX. She received a BFA from Southern Methodist University. Recent Texas solo exhibitions include The Grace Museum; Cris Worley Fine Arts; Martin Museum of Art; Art Museum of Southeast Texas; and a two-person site-specific installation at the Umlauf Sculpture Garden & Museum. She was also included in recent exhibitions at the Amon Carter Museum of American Art, TX and the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, LA. She has exhibited internationally in Austria, Denmark, Germany, Greece, India, Japan, Peru, and Turkey. Her work is currently on view in the Ground Zero 360 Remembrance Exhibition at the Museum of Biblical Art...

Guidance
By Ben Young
Located in New York, NY
Ben Young’s sculpture fluidly blends glass, concrete, bronze, steel, and light to depict romantic and pensive imagery highlighting the fragility of our climate and its most precious resource – water. Born in Australia and raised in New Zealand, Young is an avid surfer and environmentalist, inspired by a lifetime on and around oceans, bays, and reefs, with an intimate understanding of the challenges our precious ecosystems face.
Young’s thought-provoking sculpture shows great range, portraying the beauty and solitude of life on the ocean, haunting depths of the deep sea, and stunning and relaxing upside of island life. Water is many things to many people, which Young encapsulates brilliantly in his work, encompassing themes of sustainability throughout.
Using concrete to create mountains, crevasses, sand bars, and cliffs, Young’s innovative use of materials is transportative. With hand-carved glass as his guiding medium, Young amplifies light and its relationship with water – our most sacred element – to create a glowing unity that people from around the world connect with on a personal level, whether they are beachside or in the Desert.
