Art Basel And Design Miami Basel 2015

Every June, collectors from around the world flock to Basel, Switzerland, to explore a stunning selection of the finest new-to-market objects in art and design, carefully curated and presented by hundreds of renowned international exhibitors. Art Basel’s sister fair, Design Miami/Basel, meanwhile, is now an established presence in its tenth year.
Each iteration of the fairs offers collectors the opportunity to claim first dibs on perennial art fair favorites, as well as to discover emerging artists and designers who have taken their first steps on the most premier of stages. From 1stdibs’ own fine art galleries, offerings at Art Basel 2015 include Cheim & Reid’s selection of rare watercolors by the late French feminist Louise Bourgeois; a series of gouache and watercolor-painted photographs depicting reclining female nudes by Saul Leiter at Howard Greenberg Gallery; rare prints by pop legend Roy Lichtenstein and conceptual artist John Baldessari; as well the fluorescent minimalism of Dan Flavin at Acquavella.
Notably, this year’s edition of Design Miami/Basel is introducing a bounty of rare and collectible fine watches alongside jewelry, furniture and decorative objects. While R & Company presents smaller-scale contemporary works by glass designer Thaddeus Wolfe and the Los Angeles-based Haas Brothers duo, Patrick Parrish showcases design objects of the vintage variety by Austrian maker Carl Auböck. As expected, the fair’s exhibiting galleries continue to present exemplary designs from mid-century French and Scandinavian furniture designers in addition to the bevy of innovative pieces from contemporary creators.
But whether or not you can attend the festivities in Basel, fear not: Our editors’ selection of noteworthy items from 1stdibs dealers is sure to give you a taste of the fun.
