Bette Lou Voorhis Art

b. 1930

Bette Lou Voorhis, an oil painting artist, began her formal training at the age of 13 in Minnesota. Upon graduation from high school, Voorhis started working as a secretary for 3M in St. Paul, Minnesota. She was soon spending considerable time illustrating company reports, which led to the decision to pursue her creative talents professionally. Voorhis married, moved to Richardson, Texas, and continued her art training at the Dallas Fine Arts Museum. She studied under the direction of many noted artists, and is a graduate of the Texas School of Fine Arts.

Jules Van Biesbroeck was the son of Jules Evariste van Biesbroeck, a painter of Ghent, but was born in Italy, in Portici, near Naples, while his parents were staying there. (In the 19th century many artists made educational trips to Italy). It was a long visit: the child was two years old by the time the family returned to Ghent.[1] After a short period of practice with his father, van Biesbroeck was enrolled in the Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent. His first painting, "The Shepherd" (French: Le pâtre), was sold at the Triennale in Ghent. A fine plein air study of a stoney outcrop on the edge of a French village circa 1860. Boulanger was famous during his lifetime for his portraits of the intelligentsia of Paris society during the 19th century including Victor Hugo.
