Rain Dots landscape impressionistic
By Katherine Kean
Located in Palm Desert, CA
Drops of rain reflect bright lights and punctuate the soft, tonal background of a rainy day. The windshield highlights the contrast of an intimate experience within and the effect of the elements outside. Both painterly and playful while striking a midpoint between pure representation and an emphasis on the picture plane. Painted on a cradled gesso board panel, with 1 1/2 inch deep, smooth wood edges. Suitable for framing or beautiful left as is. A childhood of moving and traveling around the United States has shaped Katherine Kean's vision, as have journeys to eastern Africa, Mexico, Scotland, France and painting jaunts all over Kean's now native California. Born in West Virginia, moving later to Ohio and New Jersey, but growing up mainly in Massachusetts, she attended Rhode Island School of Design, graduating with a BFA in Film, Video and Animation. Long fascinated by the intersection of order and chaos in the natural world, Katherine Kean skillfully uses observation, memory, and interpretation to translate her love of natures kinetic phenomena into paintings that capture the often turbulent emotions within light, weather, and landscapes. Her work has exhibited in museums and galleries across the United States, including the LACMA Art Rental and Sales Gallery and the Brand Library Art Gallery in Los Angeles...

Liquid Sun Splash landscape impressionistic
By Katherine Kean
Located in Palm Desert, CA
If you don't like the weather in New England now, just wait a few minutes.۝ - Mark Twain The weather in Hawaii provides a similar effect, or rather than waiting as it changes, a person can experience radiant sunshine and pouring rain simultaneously. This one in a series of "windshield paintings"is painterly, brushy, a little bit textured, and slightly raised, particularly for the drops. Painted on gallery wrapped linen, on 1 1/2 inch deep stretchers. The edges are hand painted, providing a finished look, suitable for framing, or beautiful left as is. Street Tree in a Deluge impressionistic landscape
By Katherine Kean
Located in Palm Desert, CA
A heavy downpour smashes against the windshield distorting the scene ahead. Part of the "windshield series" this painting emphasizes some of the linear aspects of rain and water, as well as motion. Heavy rain experienced from a place of comfort. My windshield paintings aim to capture these fleeting and intimate moments in time and reveal the serene center that can arise in the midst of natures turbulence. "Street Tree in a Deluge" is painted on gallery wrapped linen, on 1 1/2 inch deep stretchers, with color matched, hand painted edges, wired with finger friendly coated wire and ready for installation. A childhood of moving and traveling around the United States has shaped Katherine Keans vision, as have journeys to eastern Africa, Mexico, Scotland, France and painting jaunts all over Keans now native California. Born in West Virginia, moving later to Ohio and New Jersey, but growing up mainly in Massachusetts, she attended Rhode Island School of Design, graduating with a BFA in Film, Video and Animation. The edges are hand painted, providing a finished look, suitable for framing, or beautiful left as is. From the artist: As a painter, I seek out these moments in nature; when the wind picks up and the clouds gather, sparking a world of heightened mood and sensation.
