'2' Restored Vintage Witco Conquistador Tiki Throne Chairs in Original Red Fur
By Witco, William Westenhaver / Witco
Located in Chattanooga, TN
Pair of restored Witco Conquistador tiki throne chairs in original red fur. These chairs are absolutely wild in the best kind of way. The original red fur fabric has a thick pile. This bright red upholstery adds drama to the high-back, iron cladded, hand-carved throne. As if all that isn’t enough.. the arms are carved like gorilla paws. Each throne chair is crowned with two hand-carved conquistador heads donning their iconic helmets. These highly collectible and hard-to-find thrown chairs were born of the jet-set era. The 1960s was the golden age of air travel and Americans were absolutely fascinated with “Exotica.” Ephemera from exotic tropical lands around South Asia were all the rage and gave birth to an explosion of tiki motifs in popular American culture. We have four of these chairs available, two arm chairs and two armless chairs. This listing is for just the two armchairs. The two armless chairs are sold separate. We also have the matching dining table, sold separate. We have other Witco items available including conquistador chairs in new leopard upholstery, Witco end table, and Witco cat...

Hand Carved High Back Witco Tiki Throne King Chairs in Faux Leopard Fur
By Witco, William Westenhaver / Witco
Located in Chattanooga, TN
Take a walk on the wild side, or maybe just have a seat there with scepter in hand. Each anthropomorphic gorilla-arm-chair has been recovered in high-quality, cruelty free, faux-fur that very much resembles the look and feel of leopard fur. Each high back is adorned with two hand-carved conquistador heads donning their iconic helmets. This project was a complete tear-down and rebuild. Every section was unbolted and individually restored. This sinuous, dark cedar has been painstakingly detailed by our in-house restoration team to both preserve the patina and address any imperfections in the wood. Lightly recolored and clear-coated to accentuate and preserve the character. The seats and backs were professionally reupholstered, and the results speak for themselves. We're more than certain these will exceed expectations. Robert Post Junior and Artist William Westenhaver Created Witco...

Carved Tiki Arm Chairs by William Westenhaver for WITCO, Pair, circa 1950
By Witco, William Westenhaver / Witco
Located in Los Angeles, CA
These two (2) ornately crafted red walnut armchairs with carved exotic details are a testament to William Westenhaver's Modern Primitive creations. Westenhaver joined forces with Western International Trading Company in 1957 to bring his vision of Polynesian inspired furniture to life. Witco successfully brought the "tiki-fever" found in bars and restaurants of the era, directly into the American home. The red walnut frames are embellished with carved scrolls, markings and flourishes, as was evident in the Pop Primitivism movement. These sturdy lounge chairs are upholstered in gold crushed velvet, an Apt fabric choice for these regal looking chairs. Being a fan of the movement, Elvis Presley created a "Jungle Room", dressed entirely in Witco furnishings at his Graceland Estate. If you're assembling your own "Jungle Room", enticed by the tropical trend in decor right now, or curating a design scheme that incorporates some whimsey these pieces would aptly achieve those notions. Measurements: 34.75" H x 33.5" W x 40.5" D Seat height: 17" Very good vintage condition. As expected, minor signs of use commensurate with its age are evident. Please contact us for a full condition report. We also have a matching Witco sofa...
