Iconic pair of wall sconces designed in "Brutalist" style by Julius Theodore Kalmar and produced by Kalmar for the Soria collection between 1960 and 1964, for this series the company preferred to use Murano glass; each sconce consists of a nickel-plated metal frame in the shape of an open box, in the front, there are lamp holders for two light points and an attachment on which the glass structure is easily hooked and can be removed for cleaning, while the one that rests on the wall contains the electrical wires; These spectacular sconces are characterized by the icicle-like glass components (ice glass) that look incredibly similar to a real ice sculpture; when lit and flooded with light, they cast beautiful shadows on the surrounding walls, creating a cozy warmth in the room despite their icy appearance, they play with natural (sun) light even when turned off. Founded by Julius August Kalmar in 1881 in Vienna, Kalmar originally produced handcrafted objects with cast bronze. Over the years, they partnered with acclaimed architects and designers, eventually presenting their custom-made wares at major exhibitions such as the 1888 Vienna Trade Exposition, 1893 Chicago World's Columbian Exposition, the 1901 Export Exposition Scandinavia, and the 1906 Austrian Exhibition in London. Entering the 20th century, Kalmar began crafting customized fixtures with top-tier architects and designers for some of the largest luxury projects in the world, a path they continue on today. Peculiar, rare, and antique pair of Italian altar candlesticks in the shape of a torch; they were made completely by the technique of manual turning, a special way of working that allows the objects to have a rounded shape: the piece of wood rotates with the aid of the lathe, while the craftsman uses special tools called "gouges" to shape and decorate its surface; they were then painted with a pasty gray-white varnish, which over time has taken on the craquelure effect; on the wooden structure we did not, therefore, consider doing any restoration because its veiled patina and imperfections make it truly alluring and fascinating and attest to its antiquity and authenticity; at the top of each one is a metal "bobeche" of shaped leaves made to hold large candles; when, in more recent times, they were electrified, a candle-shaped lamp holder was applied; the base is made of three lion's paws in cast bronze. Elegant and linear lamp in nickel and gilded brass; the solid round base with two steps, supports a brass sphere from which departs a stem with a refined, harmonious, and proportioned shape; at the top of the stem, there is a small but massive brass disk above which was placed the point of light with the attack for a lampshade (not supplied). The lamp was produced in Paris between 1960 and 1964 in a laboratory for the metalworking, it was a very well-equipped and specialized laboratory because the polishing and finishing of the two metals used were obtained with precision and meticulousness of the highest level; in the process of polishing the piece was worked with wheels of natural ?bre, combined with a very fine abrasive paste, then using other types of wheels it was possible to obtain a perfect polishing so that even the reflection of light becomes more uniform, giving the surface in question the typical bright appearance. These master craftsmen have made the lamp with their own design in Mazda style, by the concession of the Mazda Company itself without being able to affix the brand but following strict production patterns, the original table lamp style "Mazda Lamp" fascinates for its Parisian design of the thirties, simple and functional Art Deco; The successful combination of these mixed materials and refined colors have created a preciousness rich in contrast but very harmonious; in this lamp quality, elegance and fine workmanship are the focus of attention.
