Pair of Art Deco Life-Size Bronze Pharaoh Verdigris Lamp Statues with Torchieres
About the Item
At the base of a staircase, or in front of a fireplace, the silhouettes of this pair has a lifelike quality. Pharaohs light the way from atop their geometric base. The bronze Egyptian-style statues will dominate the entryway and the conversation. The silhouettes are stunning, on or turned off. The Art Deco style parcel verdigris bronze figural floor lamps are from 1940. The pharaoh lifts his arms overhead and forward with the torchiere clutched in his hands. Based on the precision and the style, the piece was created by the use of the traditional technique of bronze casting called "Lost-Wax". It depicts an idolized Pharaoh. Both Pharaohs' eyes are cast downward. The torches symbolize prosperity or light. Each lamp has a signature on the base that reads "Gurschener" or "Gorschen." The carving was carried out by the more contemporary but still somewhat traditional approach of the early mid-century. It has a dark brownish matte patina with small reflections of metallic green. The piece is quite large and has a frost glass white torch crowning the sculpture. The piece is in good condition with small signs of age, some oxidation to various areas. Very elegant pieces, collectible. This was produced by a group of artists most likely. There is a glass shade for each that takes on the form of a flame. The glass is sculpted. There are hieroglyphics that encircle the octagonal base. This fabulous pair is ready for installation.
The pharaoh is 57 inches tall, his counterpart is 55.5 inches tall.

- Condition:Wear consistent with age and use. The statue shows signs of wear and age that include a scuff on the left hip and some signs of wear to the plinth base. Overall, the statue presents extremely well for its age. The light socket needs tightening.
