Oil-on-Canvas Painting 'Golf in Saint Tropez' by Robert Delval (1934-)
By Henri Matisse, Delval, Pierre Bonnard
Located in NICE, FR
We present you with this wonderful artwork, titled 'Golf in Saint Tropez'. It is an oil painting on canvas and signed by the artist, Robert Delval (1934-). It dates back to 2007, making it a contemporary piece. The artist's playful use of colours, perspective, depth, and form in this artwork demonstrates the influence of the artistic styles of Henri Matisse and Pierre Bonnard, which Robert Delval saw as artistic inspirations. Robert Delval, born in 1934 in Montmartre, Paris, cultivated his artistic skills amidst the street painters of his childhood neighbourhood, drawing inspiration from books and museums. At twenty-five, he embarked on a European and American journey armed solely with brushes and notebooks. Upon returning to France, he divided his time, spending spring and summer on the Mediterranean coast and autumn and winter in Megève, selling his watercolours to passers-by, including the likes of Françoise Sagan. One of his small gouache pieces, depicting a view of the Luxembourg Garden, caught the eye of André Roussard, a Montmartre framer...

Gallant Scene Painting by Philippe Mercier, 18th Century
Located in Lisbon, PT
An 18th century painting of a gallant scene in a park. Attributed with seal of painter's studio to Philippe Mercier (1689 to 1760) from the circle of the french painter Nicolas Lancret, a follower of the École of Antoine Watteau. Oil on canvas, in a fine carved giltwood frame. Frame: Width: 16,53 in (42 cm) Depth: 14,56 in (37 cm) Canvas: Width: 12,99 in (33 cm) Depth: 10,62 in (27 cm) Philippe Mercier (Berlin 1689 – London 1760) born in Berlin and studied at the Berlin Akademie with Antoine Pesne before traveling to Italy and France. By the time he arrived in London in 1716, had considerable familiarity with the work of contemporary French painters, particularly Watteau and his sophisticated style. Soon won Watteau patronage in court circles. In 1726 painted two important group portraits that can be seen as an introduction to English art - Baron Schultz and his friends (1725, Tate Gallery, London) and Viscount Tyrconnel with his family (1725-6, private collection). In 1729, Mercier was appointed Chief Painter to Frederick, Prince of Wales, and, a year later, keeper of his library, but they seem to have fallen away in the latter half of the 1730s, when he retired to the country, where painted several portraits for the Samwell family of Upton, Northants, and Hesilriges of Noseley, Warwicks. In 1739 Mercier moved to York, where he built up a considerable portrait practice among the leading families in the county. It was at this time that he made his greatest contribution to British painting, introducing and developing the 'extravagant image', a genre derived from Chardin as well as Watteau and 17th-century Dutch genre painting. Described by George Vertue as "bit of some conversational figures as large as life: vain plaisant Fantasies and habits: mixed modes very well done – and very approved", such works were frequently recorded and clearly enjoyed considerable success. Painted in the second half of the 1730s, the present work, An Allegory of Taste, is a fine example of this way of painting and its Rococo sensibility reveals the artist's affinities with contemporary French art...

Ecole de Paris painting by Louis Nallard "Interior" Tempera on board ca 1955
By Louis Nallard
Located in EL Waalre, NL
Louis Nallard, “Interior”, circa 1955 – Tempera on cardboard, professionally framed Original artwork by French painter Louis Nallard. In this abstracted Interior the artist blends grey and earthtones with strokes of vibrant blues, orange and green. Signed by the artist, right bottom corner. About the artist Louis Nallard (Algiers 1918 – Paris 2016) was a French non-figurative painter of the Nouvelle École de Paris. Born on June 17, 1918, in Algiers, French Algeria, had a life intertwined with art and creativity. Despite facing early hardships with the loss of his mother to the Spanish flu, Nallard found solace in his ancestral landscapes. Every summer, he returned to the Dombes region, his father’s birthplace, which became a wellspring of inspiration for his artistic endeavors. At the tender age of sixteen, in 1934, Nallard unveiled his debut exhibition featuring portraits and landscapes, showcasing his skills in watercolors and gouaches. The exhibition took place at the gallery owned by Thomas Rouault, the nephew of the renowned painter. In 1941, Nallard enrolled at the Beaux-arts in Algiers, where he encountered fellow artists such as Marcel Fiorini and Robert Lavergne. Lavergne later became his introducer at the prestigious Galerie Jeanne Bucher. During this time, Nallard also met Maria Manton...

Moya Claire Dyring Painting Signed French Marine 1950s
By Moya Dyring
Located in Roma, IT
Beautiful and evocative oil painting by the great French school modern artist Moya Dyring specializing in marinas. It depicts a harbor with boats probably from the French Riviera painted with great intensity but giving, at the same time, a sweet sense of serenity. Moya Claire Dyring was born in Coburg, Victoria in 1909. She produced drawings, oil paintings and pastels. She was one of the first women artists to embrace Modernism and exhibit cubist paintings in Melbourne. For several years she was a member of the modern art community known as the Heide Circle, named after the home of art collectors John and Sunday Reed, and now the Heide Museum of Modern Art. Every item of our Gallery, upon request, is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity issued by Sabrina Egidi official Expert in Italian furniture for the Chamber of Commerce of Rome and for the Rome Civil Courts. Dyring then travelled to the USA and France, where she lived most her life. Her work is held in the Heide Museum as well as the National Gallery of Australia. One of her earliest works in cubist in style, Melanctha, 1934, was acquired by Sunday Reed. In 1934 Dyring also painted Portrait of Sunday Reed which went into the Reed's collection, along with a cubist style Portrait of a Woman from the same year. While her early works were figurative or cubist, in France she turned to landscape as she travelled to various towns throughout France. In her later years, unable to travel freely, she painted children against the backdrop of Paris. As time passed, she was largely glossed over and not included in major exhibitions of artists, especially women artists, of the 30s, 40, and 50s. In 2002, at the University of Melbourne, Gaynor Patricia Cuthbert delved into her life and work for a doctoral thesis, helping to bring back attention to her work. Collection The Heide Museum of Modern Art holds many paintings and drawings, some acquired through the John and Sydney Reed collection. The National Gallery of Australia, Canberra includes one drawing. The Art Gallery of New South Wales holds multiple works. Third child of Carl Peter Wilhelm Dyring, medical practitioner, and his second wife Dagmar Alexandra Esther, née Cohn, both Victorian born. Moya was educated (1917-27) at Firbank Church of England Girls' Grammar School, Brighton. After visiting Paris in 1928, she studied (1929-32) at the National Gallery schools, Melbourne, and shared fellow student Sam Atyeo's interest in artistic innovation. Classical modernism engaged her attention in the early 1930s. She painted at the George Bell school and studied under Rah Fizelle in Sydney; Mary Alice Evatt and Cynthia Reed were her colleagues. For several months in 1937 she took charge of Heide, the home and garden of John and Sunday Reed, at Bulleen, Melbourne. The Reeds were pivotal both to her sympathy for modernism and her belief in congenial fellowship. She enjoyed something of the intense relationship with Sunday Reed that the latter would subsequently extend to Joy Hester. In June Dyring held an exhibition, opened by H. V. Evatt, at the Riddell Gallery, Melbourne. Less enthusiastic than the Reeds and the Evatts about her art, Basil Burdett wrote of her 'somewhat incoherent interpretation of modern ideas', although he did acknowledge that her work had 'audacity of colour and a certain monumental feeling for form . . . qualities rare enough in Australian painting'. In August Dyring embarked for Panama whence she travelled by bus to New York, breaking her journey to view major galleries. She had intended to paint in the United States of America, but disliked the work of contemporary American artists and sailed for France. In 1938 she was based in Paris, taking advantage of Atyeo's contacts within the avant-garde. She studied at the Académie Colarossi, the Académie de la Grande Chaumière and with Andre Lhote, although by October she denounced him as a 'racketeer'. In 1939 Dyring and Atyeo settled on a farm at Vence, France; inspired by memories of Heide, they grew fruit and flowers. Sam accepted a commission to decorate a house in Dominica, West Indies, leaving Moya at Vence. Evacuated to Australia via South Africa, where she painted and searched for tribal art, she then journeyed to Dominica and married Atyeo. They were not happy, neither painted and Dyring was ill. Evatt offered Atyeo work and Dyring accompanied him to the U.S.A. She viewed art, painted occasionally and claimed to have exhibited in Washington in 1943. After World War II Evatt found Sam various postings, while Moya returned to Paris to pursue a full-time career in art. They were to be divorced in 1950. From about 1946 Dyring's art was more personal than innovative. She gained a considerable reputation among French regionalist and nationalist artists for her sympathetic appreciation of provincial scenes and life. Bernard Smith placed her in the French tradition of intimiste painters. In 1948 she leased and renovated an apartment on the Ile St Louis, which, as Chez Moya, became a centre for Australians who enjoyed her hospitality, cooking and practical assistance. She revisited Australia and exhibited in various cities in 1950, 1953, 1956, 1960 and 1963; the press carried her reports of Parisian cultural life. Dyring held a solo exhibition in London in December 1949 and was in close contact with expatriate Australians, among them Loudon Sainthill, Donald Friend...

Mid Century Modern Painting - Ballet Dancer - Pierre Grisot
By Pierre Grisot
Located in Casteren, Noord-Brabant
A lovely vintage painting of a ballet dancer, made by the French artist Pierre Grisot. Oil painting on hardboard, framed in a classic frame. Dimensions frame: 47 x 42 cm Dimensions painting: 25 x 20 cm Free shipping Pierre Gristot. France, 1911-1995 Grisot was born in Paris, he was a French post-Impressionist artist who was a member of the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. Grisot painted in a light-hearted style that was all his own. Whether he was painting fashionable ladies of the day, nudes or flowers, his work was always full of colour and life and was very different from the styles of his contemporary painters. His paintings now serve as vintage reminders of the style of the mid 20th Century. One of the most enduring features of Grisot's work was his brilliant use of color and his evocative renditions of the female visage. Grisot was born in 1911 in Paris. Grisot worked as an engineer but gave up this career and moved to Paris, where he studied painting for a year at the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs. After this he studied at the prestigious Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, where he obtained his diploma as a drawing teacher. Grisot taught drawing and painting for many years, but he also gave up this work to be able to paint freely. The first exhibition of Grisot's paintings took place in Paris in 1942. In 1951 he received a prize for engraving and in 1952 the French government awarded him a scholarship for a stay of several months in Tunisia. At that time the museum of Besançon acquired two of his works. Pair of Large 18th Century French Boiserie Overdoor Paintings
Located in Dallas, TX
Once installed architecturally in a chateau in Normandy, France, this large pair of overdoors was painted in the 1700s and executed in a technique known as verdaille. Verdaille utilizes various shades of green to achieve a mesmerizing monochromatic effect. This technique’s rich history traces back to the 12th century when it was initially employed to create stained glass for Cistercian monasteries, where colorful art was prohibited, making these overdoors not only aesthetically captivating but also a piece of living art history. Interestingly, there is a hand-written transport note on the back of one of the overdoors (see detail photo) that mentions the paintings were to be shipped to a Madame DeFrance in Paris, at the rue St. Honore corner of la rue Dufour (freight pre-paid). These exquisite pieces are encompassed by wood frames adorned with lavish foliate carvings, beautifully painted in a soothing French gray hue. Each overdoor encapsulates a unique musical scene that transports you to the heart of 18th-century Europe. In the first painting, a man plays the uilleann pipe, a unique instrument with a bellow-driven mechanism that distinguishes it from a bagpipe. The musician has quite an audience, as two women, one cradling a sheep, and four more sheep next to a dog have gathered nearby. In the second painting, witness a captivating moment of courtship as a gentleman kneels before a woman with a tambourine in her hands. He presents a long woodwind instrument, possibly a carnyx, while a faithful dog rests nearby amidst a backdrop of gardening tools. These stunning French verdaille overdoors were once part of a themed boiserie room (most likely green in color and centered around music). They can once again be used to create a theme above a pair of interior doors or they can be hung as a unique set of artwork.
