Large Chinese Famille Noire Porcelain Vase with Decoration of Birds

About the Item

A large and imposing antique Chinese 'Famille Noire' porcelain vase, intricately decorated all over with vibrantly coloured butterflies, blossoms and birds, including a crane and a phoenix. Its narrow rim is highlighted with a band of bright yellow, encircled by a 'Greek Key' motif. Dating from the second half of the 20th century, the Famille Noire style became popular under the Empress Dowager Cixi, and refers to porcelain decorated with a black background with complimentary polychrome enamel decoration in shades of aubergine, white, yellow and green. This gorgeous urn-shaped vase is in excellent, vintage condition.
