Chinese Han Dynasty Amphora Pot

About the Item

This amphora pot was made some 2,000 years ago during the Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 220). This vase is pear form with a vertically incised band around the neck beneath a lozenge-shaped opening at the mouth and the two loop handles, each finished with raised circular bosses, resolving into four raised scrolls on the body supported on a flat circular foot rim and recessed foot. Each side of the jar is decorated with a pair of concentric circles, which look like wide-opening eyes. Overall the shape of the jar resembles the head of a ram, this jar is commonly called a ‘ram horn’ jar in Chinese TL tested by Oxford Authentication
