Japanese Imari Awabi Form Dish, Meiji Period (1868 - 1912)

About the Item

A beautiful hand-painted Japanese Imari contoured glazed shell dish with fluted edge to the top half, profusely decorated in geometric floral patterns with a sweeping vine scroll and prunus in vibrant shades of blue, orange, green and white with gilt overlay. Dating to the late 19th/20th century. Imari ware is a Western term for a brightly-coloured style of Arita ware Japanese export porcelain made in the area of Arita, in the former Hizen Province, northwestern Kyūshū. They were exported to Europe in large quantities.
