Japanese Late Edo Period Kiri and Cypress Tansu 'Merchant's Chest'

About the Item

A fine Japanese late Edo period kiri wood (chestnut) and cypress wood tansu (merchant's chest) with multiple drawers of various sizes including a sliding section. Having original red lacquer accent and original iron hardware. A top quality piece and an excellent example of this style Japanese chest. Easy to incorporate and use in most rooms and decor. Shows expected signs of use and wear with a piece of furniture this age. Overall in remarkable antique condition. Japan, mid 19th century.
