Ogi Ishō, Dansu Japanese Two Pieces Tansu of Late Meiji Era
About the Item
This early 20th century Japanese clothing chest from Sado Island produced in the late Meiji Era. It consists of two pieces decorated with very elaborate metalwork covering the front.
It consists of two overlapping parts that can be easily separated and moved. In the upper part there are two large drawers, while the lower part has one large drawer and two smaller ones. In the lower part there is a small finely decorated door that protects "the safe", the other small drawers.
This Tansu is made from cryptomeria wood for the chests and drawers and the front from paulownia wood.
This chest is extremely decorated by engraved iron. The handles are in the typical "Gumbai" shape, while the side handles for moving it are rectangular in shape.
