Beautiful, Late 19th Century Large Bronze and Multi-Metal Dish
About the Item
A beautiful, large (49cm across) Bronze dish dating from late 19th Century Japan and with inlaid and onlaid precious metal decoration.
The main body of the dish with a rich red patination and flush inlaid decorative border with Geometric patterns is complemented by an attractive scene depicting a Sparrow standing on the boughs of a blossoming tree and watching an insect about to feed on one of its flowers. The onlaid metalwork in Gold, Silver and Shakudo.
An excellent example of Japanese Meiji-era (1868 - 1912) craftsmanship and imagination.
