Hasuda Shugoro Bronze vase, Showa period

About the Item

Hasuda Shugoro graduated from Tokyo School of Arts in 1938 with a specialisation in crafts (chukin). He received many awards including : the Nitten Award and the Hokuto award. He received the most prestigious Japanese cultural recognition when he became a Person of Cultural Merit in 1991. He was one of the founders of the Creative Crafts Association as well as rue Japan Metal Sculpture Institute. While considered a master of Japanese bronze tradition, his work often comes closer to art and sculpture rather than traditional Japanese metalworking. This interesting bottle shaped vessel has a unique modern, almost industrial, spin on it. It has an engraved signature at the bottom. We have several other very interesting Japanese Bronzes for sale.
