About the Item
This striking vintage Balinese Kamasan painting, rendered on handwoven cotton, beautifully captures the timeless elegance of classical Wayang-style storytelling. Featuring intricate scenes from Hindu epics and Javanese folklore, the artwork is executed in the traditional earthy palette of reds, ochres, and blacks, now softened with age-related fading and gentle wear that add depth and character to the piece. This particular example is exceptionally long and over a century old. This piece was purchased from the royal family of the Klungkung Regency, Bali where this style of painting originates from. A cherished piece in private collection for over 40 years.
