About the Item
A beautifully realized, deeply colored abstract work titled "Cause, Blue" by renowned Japanese modern artist Hodaka Yoshida who was the second son of one of Japan's most celebrated artist Hiroshi Yoshida, though stylistically Hodaka could not have been more different than his father.
A version of this exact print can be found in the Brooklyn Museum, New York. This print is pencil signed, numbered (30/50) and titled (also in Japanese) by the artist and was made in 1962. Hodaka Yoshida's abstract works, especially this format, have become relatively rare and hard to find.
In his lifetime, Yoshida exhibited mainly in major international art biennials. He was awarded many prizes, including the purple ribbon decoration bestowed by the Emperor in 1990, and the order of the rising sun, fourth class, awarded by the Emperor posthumously in 1995.
