Utagawa Kuniyoshi (Japan, 1798-1861), a set of nine Japanese woodblock prints (ukiyo-e) from the series 'Taiheiki Eiyuden', or 'Heroes of the Great Peace' published between 1846-1847, late do period. The set is comprised of: no. 3 'Chibata Shuri-no-shin Tatsuie grasping his spear whilst besieged in the castle of Chokoji', no. 5 'Tatenaka Kwamboye standing in civilian clothes next to a globe', no. 13 'Endo Giemon Masatada hurling a severed head at Nobunaga', no. 14 'Takuma Gemba-no-jo Morimasu wielding his sword while two men attempt to hold him', no. 16 '16-year-old Menju Sosuke Iyeteru retreiving the gohei standardard of Katsuie', no. 18. 'Matsunaga Daizen Hisahide kneeling on a fur, about to commit seppuku', no. 29 'Shioren Sajima-no-kami Matsataka turning over a scroll of Buddhist scripture with his spear at Kotokuji Temple', no. 35 'Hayashi Tanshiro Taketoshi, armoured but without helmet, in his last battle at Uchide-no-hama in 1582', no. 45 'Horimoto Gigayu Takatoshi, standing in full armour holding his spear'.
