Japanese "Suiseki" Mountain View Scholar's Old Large Stone /Mountain Scenery

About the Item

This is a stone mined in Japan. Not only in China but also in Japan from ancient times, rocks in the mountains have been shaved and stones for viewing have been quarried. It is a very beautifully balanced stone. You will get the illusion that you are looking at a big mountain. It is a stone called ``Furuya stone'' that was mined in Wakayama Prefecture. It is generally dark grey, often with occasional whitish streaks. The type of rock is limestone, which is quite hard. This whitish streak is just like a river flowing through the mountains. When searching for stones, the work involves excavating the stones buried in the mountain soil, but basically there is hardened soil attached to them, and the work involves scraping it off and polishing it to some extent. However, in order to utilize the natural stone as it is, no carvings or other treatments are applied to it. Both the front and back have a beautiful mountain shape. The scenery is like looking at mountain peaks of different heights, truly a mountain range. It's very balanced. The pedestal is made of hard wood. It is a beautifully carved pedestal. The condition of the item is shown in the detailed photos as circled in red. ・Photo 17 shows the area where the broken tip has been glued back together. ・Photo 18 shows the area where part of the tip is missing. Photos show the front and back. ・Photo 19 shows the area after the break was re-glued. Photo from the front and back. ・Photo 20 shows the area where the small hole has been filled. It is not noticeable from a little distance, and should not significantly interfere with viewing. The price is very reasonable. It is difficult to find items of this size. Why not take this opportunity to display one in your room?

Located in Sammu-shi, Chiba
This is a stone mined in Japan. Not only in China but also in Japan from ancient times, rocks in the mountains have been shaved and stones for viewing have been quarried. Such stones for appreciation are collectively called "suiseki". Suiseki means "water" and "stone". The name comes from the fact that I enjoyed pouring water on the stones and changing the color of the stones. And this item is also Suiseki, but it is for viewing without splashing water. It is made with the image of a mountain view. The flow of the river...
