19th Century Thai Carved Wooden Stupa
About the Item
A rare 19th century Thai carved wood stupa made from the heart wood of the Teak tree. This stupa is from Isan region of the Thailand (northern Thailand, western Loas). This finely hand crafted Stupa (a small model of a Buddhist temple) was once used as a family shrine. Over the years, the weather creates this beautiful rain patina and eventually the stupa breaks down at the base. Once this occurs and a Buddhist ceremony is conducted, and the stupa is removed.
Mounted on a metal stand. Stand size: 11.5" x 11.5".
