God Ganesha Stele. Uttar Pradesh, 10th - 11th Century

About

This stele displays the God Ganesha with human body and elephant´s head performing the sacred dance. His bent legs well show this ritual dance and his four arms, of which just one has remained, represent the attributes of this god. In the only extant hand he holds an axe as symbol of abstention from desires. On the two sides of the god the Ganas are depicted, h. 40 cm, UTTAR PRADESH, 10th - 11th Century.
