Japanese Antique Stone Daruma 1860s-1900s / Stone Carving Figurine Wabi Sabi

About the Item

This is a very old Japanese stone Daruma doll. This Daruma doll dates from the Meiji period (1860s-1900s). Daruma was a Buddhist monk who introduced Buddhism from India to China, This Japanese figurine is in the shape of a monk sitting in zazen meditation. Today, they are widely popular as good luck charms. Stone Daruma dolls like this one are rare. The stone must have been picked up in the river or ocean by an unknown person long ago. He must have felt something, brought it home, and nurtured it indoors for nearly 100 years. It has been touched and stroked by humans for a long time, and has become richly textured. It has a unique presence. This is a very rare Daruma with a wabi-sabi aesthetic. It weighs 2.5 kg.
