Japanese Hand Cast Temple Bell Resonates Pleasing Sound

About the Item

Buddhist bronze bell resonates with pleaasing sound. Another extraordinary way to accent your indoor or outdoor garden space with this treasured Japanese temple bell ! This is a superb, finely detailed solid bronze heavy casting of a wonderful old bell bonsho. This bell was sourced from an old Northern Japanese collection and dates to the mid part of the 20th century. It features a simple "tree" form top ring, and well caste walls. Four (4) panels of Buddhist flaming symbols plus a detailed lower band decorate the exterior - high quality through and through. It resonates a beautiful reverberating sound and you won't be disappointed. This bell possesses a nice old original dark chocolate brown patina. Dimensions: Bell wih silk cord is 12 inches tall; Bell only is 4 inches tall and 2.5 inches diameter We will include a silk suspension cord plus a perfect complimentary hard wood striker as well (photo) Quality: very good condition History of Japan's temple bells: Rather than containing a clapper, bonsho is struck from the outside, using either a handheld mallet or a beam suspended on ropes. Antique Japanese bronze temple bells have a handle of dragon heads called ryuzu, protrusions called chi chi or nyu and to improve resonance of sound, protruding, tsuki-za, striking panels and in some instances possess a mei-bun inscription of the bell's history. Bonsho or Buddhist bells known as tsurigane (hanging bells) or great bells are large bells found in Buddhist temples throughout Japan, used to summon the monks to prayer.
