Japanese small wooden temple tower/19th-20th century/"Hourin" temple/rare object

About the Item

I have received an interesting item, so I would like to introduce it to you. This is a small wooden tower named "Hyakuman-To-Darani". This small wooden pagoda is a temple ornament used to pray for national peace by putting sutras in it. The oldest one was made in the 8th century. At that time, 1,000,000 of these were made, and 100,000 were placed in each of the 10 temples. The sutra contained in it is famous as the oldest printed material in the world. Most of them have been burnt down or scattered somewhere. This ``Hyakumanto Darani'' is thought to have been created between the Meiji period and the early Showa period. After that, it is believed that this 'Hyakuman-To-Darani' was handed out to those who donated to temples during the Meiji and Showa periods (19th and early 20th centuries). The bottom is branded with the word "horin" temple. This is probably a temple brand in Nara Prefecture or Kyoto. It is made of cypress wood and has a very beautiful straight grain. You can tell that they are using good quality cedar wood. It consists of two parts, each carved using the potter's wheel. This manufacturing method is the same manufacturing method as the oldest one. Please understand that it is a very old item, although there are chipped and cracked adhesive marks. I think it's very tasty and cool. Although it is a rare item, I set the price at a reasonable price so that many people can know about Japanese antiques. How about decorating one in your room?
