Handmade by skilled artisans from wood, each doll features a simple trunk as a body and an enlarged head with lines defining the face. One characteristic of Kokeshi dolls is their lack of arms and legs, which makes them unique and easily recognizable. They come in different sizes, with measurements ranging from 18 x 4.5 cm to 42 x 10.5 cm, making them a versatile decorative item that can be displayed together or individually. These Kokeshi dolls have been preserved in good original condition, with minor wear consistent with age and use that only adds to their character and beauty. Each doll is marked with the signature of the artist in the bottom or back, adding to their authenticity and uniqueness. Provenance from the northern Japan, these Kokeshi dolls have a rich history dating back to the middle of the Edo period (1600-1868). They were originally made by wood carvers of Shinchi Shuraku to be sold to people who were visiting the hot springs of Togatta in Zao. The Kokeshi dolls is said that were originally made by wood cravers of Shinchi Shuraku, during the middle of the Edo period (1600-1868) to be sold to people who were visiting the hot springs of Togatta in Zao.
