French 18th Century Pair of Iron Chenets
About the Item
A very unique pair of 18th century French wrought iron chenets–or andirons–forged with zoomorphic heads of bulls atop the otherwise square & straight proportions. The stylized animals feature a pair of horns mounted on their faces, complete with pairs of divots for eyes and snout, charming us with their personalities. Dark, reddish-brown patina softens the brutal texture of the forged iron, still revealing every blow from the ironsmith’s hammer nearly three centuries ago.
