Set of Three 18th Century English Staddle Stones

About the Item

A wonderful set of three 18th century English carved limestone staddle stones with the most wonderful aged surfaces, natural lichens, and wear that only 300 years of use can bestow. Staddle stones were used to elevate granaries off the ground, and their intriguing and whimsical mushroom shapes were purposeful to prevent mice and other rodents from climbing up and destroying the grain crops within. Additional photos of staddle stones in use are included. Today, the stones are wonderful decorative garden elements that add whimsy and architectural interest.
