About the Item

An exceptional collection of antique wrought iron door hardware dating from the Renaissance period, circa 16th century. These highly decorative pieces exemplify the artistry and craftsmanship of medieval and early Renaissance blacksmithing, featuring elaborate pierced and scrolled designs with foliate and grotesque motifs. The set includes two large escutcheons with keyholes, a smaller ornamental plate, and a pair of intricately formed strap hinges, all richly detailed with fluid scrollwork and symmetrical Renaissance patterns. Each piece was meticulously hand-forged, demonstrating the skill of the period’s master ironworkers and the ornamental emphasis placed on architectural fittings in important buildings of the era. Condition: Beautiful aged patina consistent with 16th century ironwork, with minor wear and oxidation. These are rare survivals of early European decorative hardware, ideal for collectors of Renaissance architectural antiques or for incorporation into a period restoration,-the set would be perfect for the entrance or wine seller door. A museum-worthy ensemble of Renaissance door furniture, showcasing both functional and decorative excellence in early ironwork.
