About the Item
A large period Louis XV fireplace executed in superior quality Breche Violette marble. The jambs with deep side returns retaining their original brass vents, the front panels cantered and panelled with scrolled tops. The corner blocks of carved shell and descending bell drops with scrolled tops again. A slim serpentine frieze with carved large central cartouche of C scrolls and acanthus with foliate and flowers within a fielded panel. The serpentine shaped shelf above. All stone backed. Wonderful variegation in colour to the period Breche marble, fine crisp carving. Superior period Louis XV fireplace circa 1770. One of a pair, image in slider and available in another listing as pair
