Rare Reclaimed Carrara Nero/Bianco Octagonal/Cabochon Marble Checkered Flooring
Located in Costa Mesa, CA
This epitome of peak elegance is the dream item for any ultra-luxury designer or custom-homeowner. It is a piece by piece reclaimed set of checkerboard Carrara Bianco Octagonal & Nero Cabochon authentic Italian antique tiles. This is a very limited collection for the Real/Original octagonal & cabochon marble flooring that you can almost never find in the market anymore. The exquisite texture, look and luxury feel of the old marble checkers is not even nearly matched by any modern marble checkered tile. A total available area of 9,600 square feet, recently reclaimed from a large Milano noble estate, is now being sold in 800 sqft batches. For the season, only a total of 12 batches will be sold. Cherished by the connoisseurs in fine architectural elements, this antique marble set is the ultimate "haut de gamme" in luxury flooring, reflecting royalty at it's finest and most exclusive levels. The content of each crate translates to "regency at first sight". It is the equivalent of an architectural treasure chest soon to be the center of attention in any luxury custom home or mansion. All marble tiles are extremely well preserved and remain in excellent condition. The flooring set was meticulously salvaged, piece by piece: The dirt on the back of each and every untouched tile remains clearly visible. This is the very original and rare cabochon marble pattern where every single piece within the pattern has its own unique & rich character. This as an extremely rare and original salvaged item unlike any newly fabricated checkered or cabochon flooring...

Antique Tile Splashback by W. Godwin of Lugwardine
Located in Wormelow, Herefordshire
A 36-piece set of 6-inch tiles by W. Godwin of Lugwardine in Herefordshire UK, perfect for use as an antique tile splashback, porch floor or fireplace hearth. Dating from the 19th century, these antique tiles together form an eye-catching geometric pattern consisting of black, blue and red colours that bring life and interest to even the smallest of spaces. These reclaimed tiles are over 150 years old. As such, each has a characterful, timeworn look with scuffs and marks here and there that only enhances the beauty of these striking patterned tiles. While we have arranged these antique tiles as pictured, they are not fixed and can be re-arranged in a desired pattern or shape to suit your interior project. William Godwin began manufacturing quarry tiles, bricks and drainpipes at his factory in Lugwardine, Herefordshire in 1851. In later years, William went into partnership with his son and traded as ‘Godwin & Co’, a name that would become reputable until long after William’s death in 1925. Comprises of 36 individual tiles...

Antique, New and Vintage Flooring

Carefully chosen antique, new and vintage flooring, while not usually considered a focal point, can play a huge role in designing how a space should look and feel.

Archaeologists have identified glazed brick tiles and polished stones on historic floors and other surfaces around the world. Some of the earliest known glazed bricks date to a 12th-century B.C. facade in Susa, in today’s Iran.

Whether you choose wide planks to contrast with your modern appliances in your farmhouse-style space or understated oak for a clean contemporary look, humble wood can play a starring role when it comes to flooring. Alternately, vintage tiles can be the “it” factor in your kitchen, bathroom, patio or bedroom. Gapless mosaics forming tessellations or complicated geometric patterns can provide a bold statement, and one doesn’t have to be polymath designer Gio Ponti, for example, to create dramatic floors with these tiles. (Ponti was arguably the most important figure in 20th-century Italian architecture and design, and diagonally patterned floors, meant to make rooms more dynamic, were a signature of his.)

Modern 21st-century flooring and new and made-to-order flooring come in many styles. However, choosing antique or vintage flooring or a unique pattern from innovative designers like Aimee Wilder can add an extra layer of charm and sophistication to an interior or other space.

On 1stDibs, find flooring to match a range of styles and tastes.
