After Michelangelo's 'non-finito' Series Classical Nude Bronze, Green Patina
Located in Chicago, IL
This is an extraordinary bronze sculpture of a Classic male nude by artist Dean Kugler. Attention to detail and complete understanding of the human figure are evident. The figure stands with most of his weight on one foot, contrapposto, and his arm stretched overhead revealing a powerful, muscular physique. With inspiration from Michelangelo's unfinished series of sculptures housed at the Galleria Dell'Acadamia Museum in Florence, displayed in the hall leading to Michelangelo's David sculpture, this figure too is bound within its own material symbolizing the eternal human struggle to free themselves from material trappings. The sculpture is beautifully custom mounted on a stone base. Dean Kugler Slave (after Michelangelo) bronze Measures: 20 H x 5 W x 5 D in 50.80 H x 12.70 W x 12.70 D cm DK0035 Kugler uses scale and the juxtaposition of disparate elements in order to engage and challenge the viewer. He combines elements such as strength and weakness or beauty and damage to be experienced simultaneously within the same piece of work to create a tense energy. Kugler also incorporates the technical skill of tight rendering with the dynamism of abstraction to create this energy to add additional excitement and intrigue to his aesthetic.   Dean Kugler is a seasoned interdisciplinary artist, painter, and figurative sculptor. His 3D work is featured primarily at Gallery Victor Armendariz in Chicago. In the last three years, Dean has also been featured at Abend Gallery in Denver, The Figge Art Museum, and Bereskin Gallery in Iowa. He has shown at SOFA Chicago in 2017, 2018, and 2019 and participated in ArtPrize in 2013, 2014, and 2015. He sees himself primarily as a sculptor due to the challenges he finds and thrives on within the process. In all its beauty, crudeness, and subtleties, the figure offers infinite opportunities to express feelings and emotions. There is also a physicality to sculpture that requires the work to be experienced through movement in order to reveal more about the piece. Dean has always been drawn to the interactive nature of large-scale sculpture that is available to the public - he loves the idea that his work entices the observer to go beyond what they can see and add tactility to the experience. By using both realism and abstraction, he creates a visual that challenges the viewer to resolve what they are seeing. Therefore, providing a greater connection between the artist and the viewer. 2 Jerry Johnson Landes PVC Outdoor Idyllwild Lounge Chairs Green Mesh Upholstery
By Jerry Johnson, Landes Manufacturing Co.
Located in Topeka, KS
Fun and bright pair of white PVC Idyllwild outdoor lounge chairs with Kelly green mesh upholstery and sling designed by Jerry Johnson for Landes Manufacturing Co. They are in good vintage condition. There are signs of yellowing and some scratches to the PVC due to age and outside use. The mesh upholstery has been cleaned but does still show some signs of age including fading. I like them as is but you may prefer to recover. They are priced accordingly. Please see photos. We are selling them as a pair, circa 1960s-1970s. This pair of outdoor lounge chairs is just too cool!! They are called the Idyllwild chair and designed by Jerry Johnson for Landes Manufacturing Co. circa 1968. Johnson was also involved in creating the “new” material called polyvinyl chloride, or PVC plastic which he formed into tubes and slats to produce not only the Idyllwild chair but several other bent tubular-frame designs. This pair has a Kelly-green mesh sling as well as back and seat cushions. They are adorned with white contrasting buttons. I’m going to quote an excerpt from the book California Design by Jo Lauria and Suzanne Baizerman that best describes these chairs: Johnson’s Idyllwild chair and lounge chair and ottoman revealed the versatility of the material and its rich design possibilities. The Idyllwild chair, made of interlocking PVC tubes rolled down at the edges, presented a casual and whimsical form, while the flowing, curved geometries of the tubular-framed lounge chair and ottoman gave a move elegant and elevated presence to outdoor furnishings. Each expressed a boldness that was highly regarded by the exhibition jury. These super cool outdoor chairs will be absolutely perfect on your patio, deck or porch. We are totally in love...

Dedon "Obelisk" Garden Furniture
By Frank Ligthart, DEDON
Located in Hanover, MA
BG GALLERIES SALE PRICE THROUGH 30 April 2024 The Obelisk designed by Frank Ligthart for Dedon, 2008. No longer in production. It is composed of two pairs of matching high- and low-back chairs and a conical table. The base of the table supports all the chairs when stacked into its sculptural shape for storage. We also have available separately a near complete additional Obelisk consisting of three of the S chairs and one M chair plus the table. Image 9 shows the complete Obelisk plus the spare table and chairs. Best of both worlds is to have the spare set for seating together with the complete Obelisk as sculpture, until additional seating is required. Image 8 shows the "spare" set which includes 3 "S" chairs (instead of 2) and 1 "M" chair (instead of 2) and one table base. The discounted price for the spare set on its own is $3800. The spare set will not stack to form the obelisk because that requires two of each chair. This is the ultra-chic original space-saving solution for garden, pool or terrace furniture...

Vintage Lost Wax Cast Bronze Sculpture of a Howling Dog with Textured Patina
Located in Yonkers, NY
A vintage lost wax cast bronze sculpture of a dog from the late 20th century, with textured patina. Created with the traditional technique of the lost-wax (à la cire perdue) which allows for great precision and finesse in the details, this bronze statue of a howling dog is all about texture! Standing firmly on his four paws, he is raising his head up, his open mouth revealing his teeth. Nicely detailed (his smooth collar contrasting with his long hair coat), this vintage bronze statue...
