Italian Marble Herm Statue Figure 75" Tall, 1920's, Child with Bird

About the Item

Italian Marble Herm Figure. This statue is a smiling child with right arm raised to support a bird on their upper arm. The figure is draped at the waist and truncated above the knees, supported by a rectangular shaft carved with ferns and foliage on a stepped marble base carved with palm leaves. One finger is broken. The statue is 75" tall, the base is 16" x 14.5", the widest point at the top is 18". This statue is a piece of history. It was in the Paramount Theater in Toledo, OH. The opulent theater opened in 1929, and was torn down in 1965. Prior to the demolition, all of the art and statues were sold. There were two companion statues in the theater, the one in the historical photo that the child is holding a squirrel on the left arm, and this statue.
