About the Item

Collection of three miniature Amber Sommerso Glass Objects by Mona Morales-Schildt, Kosta, 1960s A rare and striking collection of four Sommerso crystal glass objects by the celebrated Swedish designer Mona Morales-Schildt, regarded as one of Sweden’s most important glass artists. Her works are represented in major museums and collections worldwide, admired for their flawless execution, refined shapes, and rich use of color. This set includes: One miniature bowl, with an elegant, minimalist form. With a deep amber/ brown color and it is 6cm (2.36") high and around 4cm (1.57") in diameter . One rare handblown signed Sommerso vase, featuring nuanced variations of amber/ brown, each measuring approx. 11 cm (4.33") in high and 5 cm (1.96") in diameter. One miniature “Ventana” perfume flacon, 8cm (3.14") high and around 5cm (1.96") in diameter, which is an extraordinary example from Morales-Schildt’s exclusive series created in collaboration with master glassmaker Bengt Heintze at Kosta, beginning in 1959. This series, inspired by her training with Paolo Venini, represents her finest artistic achievements. All pieces were produced at the Kosta glassworks in the 1960s, showcasing Morales-Schildt’s remarkable skill as a designer and glassblower. Condition: Very good vintage condition with only minor, expected signs of age such as faint abrasions. Note that the flacon stopper has some damages at the very end, yet they are overall beautifully preserved. Price includes complimentary worldwide shipping. Sommerso glass is a very advanced technique used in order to create several layers of glass often with different contrasting colors or materials inside a single object, giving the illusion of “immersed” colors that lay on top of each other without mixing. Here she has used amber or a deep brown colored glass and covered it with clear crystal. Kosta Boda; where tradition meet innovation especially when it comes to high end design and art glass making. Kosta has a long and old history yet became leading when it came to mid-century modern art glass due to some of Scandinavia’s most renowned designers such as Bertil Vallien, Mona Morales, Monica Backström, Göran Wärff and Ulrika Hydman-Vallien. They focused on functionality as well as interesting and groundbreaking interior design in the 1970s-80s. However, this was only possible due to a previous outstanding mid-century modern designer; Vicke Lindström. The history and development of Kosta’s art and design glass. In 1903, the company merged with the Reijmyre glasbruk (glassworks) but both retained their own names. Both companies eventually became known as producers of exclusive art and design glass, in their own right. Consequently, Kosta went on to maintain its reputation as one of the leading Swedish and Scandinavian manufacturers with a range of fine art glass and tableware by distinguished designers such as Vicke Lindstrand, artistic director from 1950-1973. With Vicke Lindstrand in charge of the modern art glass production. His legacy is that Kosta became one of the most important companies when it comes to production of modern and mid-century modern art glass and interior design objects in the 1960s and 70s following Vicke Lindström’s passion for Scandinavian design Bertil Vallien and his wife Ulrika Hydman-Vallien continued the tradition, often focusing on vases as well as other modern glass objects. Thus, lots of their range is today still seen as modern and retro classics. Yet the history of Kosta Boda is much older. Founded in 1742 had an early production focusing on consisted of window glass, chandeliers and drinking glasses. From the 1840s, the factory was at the forefront of new trends and technical developments, producing pressed glass, and in the 1880s setting up a new glass-cutting workshop. The factory is situated in what is known as the Chrystal Kingdom region in Sweden. Due to the long history, skills and outstanding design when it comes to art glass, Kosta Boda has become one of Scandinavia’s leading brand when it comes to design and art glass suitable for innovative interior design and decoration.
