Minton Majolica Large Fruit Bowl with Three Pigeons Support, English, Dated 1870

Minton Majolica fruit bowl, 12-ins. Dia., formed as a blind latticework basket with a turquoise interior, with a daisy chain molded rim, supported by three fan-tail pigeons glazed in shades of blue, white, and grey with yellow beaks, on oak branches and green glazed oak leaves; the reverse with impressed marks, 'MINTON,' and date cypher for 1870, and the design number '874,' for the entry, 'Basket, Pierced, on Elaborate Stand with Modelled Pigeons (M)' as recorded in the Minton Ornamental Shapes, preserved in the Minton archives and reprinted in J.
