About the Item
A stunning Italian Venetian mid-century ruby glass dolphin stem bowl made on Murano. The bowl stands raised on a wide round texture molded foot with a folded edge rim with a centrally mounted dolphin stem with a raised tail supporting a fan shaped textured glass top with a raised frill applied rim. The bowl and base are made in ruby tinted glass with the dolphin and top frill rim crafted in clear glass with gold aventurine inclusions. The dolphin, of slightly grotesque form, has white and black applied glass eyes. Possibly made at Salviati the bowl is not marked and customary to these hand-crafted pieces the base has a central snapped pontil mark.
Provenance: From a small collection of similar pieces acquired from the UK Art Market.
The bowl is in good condition with light wear associated with age and use.
