Here is a beautiful Shell Shaped Italian Marble Holy Water Stoup. Made completely by hand, this holy water stoup is made from a single block of Italian marble. It can be used as a fountain basin, a holder for keys, jewelry etc…or as an interior decorative element. The characteristic nuances and veining of the marble make it a unique piece. Made in Italy, 20th century. Measures approx. 14.5”L x 11.75”W x 4”H More information: A holy water stoup, also known simply as a holy water font or stoup, is a vessel typically found near the entrance of a Christian church or sometimes within the church itself. Its primary function is to hold holy water, which is blessed by a priest and used for various religious rituals and purposes, such as blessings, baptisms, and making the sign of the cross. The design of a holy water stoup can vary widely depending on cultural and regional traditions, as well as the architectural style of the church. However, they generally consist of a basin or container for holding the holy water, often mounted on a wall or pedestal for easy access.
