About the Item
This dazzling antique Japanese export porcelain platter showcases masterful artistry with a richly layered moriage enamel glaze, gilt accents, and a scalloped edge. Adorned with intricate hand-painted floral motifs, cartouches of noble figures, and scenic landscapes, the piece exudes opulence and storytelling, hallmarks of late Qing or early Republic export porcelain.
Likely produced in the early 20th century, this piece reflects strong influence from Canton famille rose palettes and Japanese Satsuma-style moriage, suggesting it may have been commissioned for Western or pan-Asian collectors. The raised enamel technique creates a three-dimensional effect, especially notable in the densely decorated flowers and robes of the painted figures.
Its undulating rim and rare elongated form make it a showstopper for use as a statement centerpiece, vanity tray, or a featured cabinet display item in an Asian antiques collection.
Features:
Hand-painted porcelain platter with scalloped edge
Moriage glaze with raised enamel details
Lavish use of gold gilding throughout
Three cartouches featuring court figures and traditional landscapes
Likely late Qing Dynasty to early Republic period (c. 1900–1930)
Styling Suggestions:
Place it on a lucite stand atop a lacquered console, or lean it on a mantel paired with chinoiserie vases and ginger jars. Perfect for styling within a Regency, Hollywood glam, or maximalist interior. It can also be mounted on the wall for a high-impact gallery wall in a dining room or study. Pair with deep velvet, brass accents, or ebony woods to bring out the richness of the gilded surface. Ideal for collectors of Asian export porcelain, moriage ceramics, and chinoiserie treasures.
** This style can also be attributed to Japanese Kutani ware.

View AllCeramic Nippon Morimura Brothers Decorative Dish Vide Poche or Catchall, 1800s
Located in Oklahoma City, OK
A rare find, this decorative oval shaped Nippon catchall by Morimura Brothers is a fabulous example of early Japanese ceramics. A lovely ceramic dish for holding change or other items, it will be a fabulous chintz addition to any nightstand or foyer table. Highly decorated in bouquets of pink and yellow flowers, the center of the dish is the showstopper. A chinoiserie bird in flight with a pink breast and yellow, blue and green feathers takes center stage. Surrounding him are more bouquets of flowers and a single pink and blue bird. The rim of the dish is encircled with a blue ribbon adorned with intricately painted flowers such as white daisys and pink and yellow peonies. Two handles are at each end for carrying. The handles and the rim are both painted in gold.
The back stamp at bottom reads in green, “M-in-Wreath, hand-painted ("M" stands for importer,
Morimura Bros.); Nippon.”
Mark used since 1911.
The practice of painting of the word “Nippon” on ceramic bases began in 1891 in response to the U.S. McKinley Tariff Act, which forbade the import of items that weren’t “plainly marked...
