About the Item
A magnificent, fine and impressive pair of antique George II English sterling silver toilet boxes; an addition to our Georgian silverware collection.
These magnificent antique George II sterling silver toilet boxes have a cut cornered square shaped form onto a stepped, swept foot.
Each silver box is embellished with cast and applied panels displaying a central figural mask accented with scrolling leaf designs accented with bordered terminals incorporating a bud motif, all on a textured background.
The incurved shaped corners of each box are ornamented with further cast and applied panels depicting a ribbon tied, suspended floral spray, also on a matte textured background.
The upper portion and foot of each body are encompassed with an applied molded border to the rims.
These boxes are fitted with incurved paneled hinged covers ornamented with a contemporary engraved coat of arms amidst brick work patterns and a scrolling leaf decorated border, incorporating a simplified figural mask to the lower portion.
The rounded shaped panels of each box are embellished with scrolling leaf decoration, with a simplified textured panel to each corner.
These exceptional Georgian boxes are the finest of their type you could hope to acquire.
Condition
These antique silver toilet boxes are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.
The cast decoration is all very sharp and the engraved heraldic markings are very crisp.
Full hallmarks struck to the underside of each box are all very clear.
Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these pieces of Georgian silverware.

An exceptional, fine and impressive, rare pair of antique George IV English sterling silver boxes; an addition to our 19th century silverware collection.
These exceptional and rare antique George IV sterling silver boxes have a plain rectangular form.
The surface of each silver box is plain and unembellished, with applied thread decoration to the lower rim.
Each box is fitted with a plain hinged hallmarked cover, ornamented with further applied thread decoration to the upper rim.
The upper plateaus of the covers are individually embellished with an impressive contemporary bright cut engraved crest: one bears out of a ducal coronet a wyvern below the motto 'Avi Numerantur Avorum' - The forefathers of our forefathers are numbered and to the other an eagle regardant with wings extended grasping an escutcheon charged with a lion's head, below the 'Virtute et Robore' - By Virtue and Strength.
By virtue of its size these versatile 19th century boxes could be used for a multitude of functions.
Such original boxes of this period and size are becoming increasingly difficult to locate.

A magnificent, fine and impressive pair of antique Georgian English sterling silver tea caddies - boxed; an addition to our silver teaware collection
These magnificent, fine and impressive antique Georgian silver tea caddies each have an oblong, bomb shaped form.
The surface of each antique tea caddy is embellished with impressive chased and embossed scrolling floral and foliate decoration, incorporating paralleling undulating borders framing each side.
The decoration to the body of each incorporates two cartouches, one displaying the contemporary engraved coat of arms depicting an oval escutcheon supported by a savage and a greyhound collared and chained, displaying firstly a stag's head and secondly three bars below three roundels.
The coat of arms bears the motto 'Data fata secutus' - Following the destiny allotted to me*.
These heraldic markings are surmounted with the crest of a mountain in flames, surmounted with the motto 'ÂLuceo non uro' - I shine, not burn*.
The cartouche to the opposing side of each caddy is ornamented with an impressive contemporary engraved crest of a greyhound courant.

These exceptional antique George III sterling silver wine coolers have a circular rounded form onto a circular spreading foot.
Each body is embellished with a bright cut engraved shield shaped coat of arms depicting in-escutcheon firstly and fourthly a bugle Horn stringed between three crescents, secondly and thirdly a boar's head.
The aforementioned coat of arms is surmounted with the crests of a demi-dragon rampant, holding a battle-axe and a dragons head pierced through the neck with a spear.
