About the Item
This unique abstract signed Mid-Century Modern mixed media hinged box is by Sigi Pineda and from Taxco Mexico in the 1950s. It is signed Sigi Taxco 8. The box is silver, brass, rosewood interior with the crushed turquoise, sodalite and other crushed stones that comprise the top. The abstract design of the silver play beautifully against the stones. Sigi Pineda was born in 1929 in the town of Taxco Mexico. He began his apprenticeship in his early teens and then traveled throughout the region of Mexico working with other various silversmith workshops honing his skills and eye and hand wrought craft. He was a great jewelry designer and a great silversmith from the time period. This is a unique box in so many ways. it is beautifully made and was polished to the best it can be. This will make a great desk accessory for a woman or a man. It is heavy and an early signed box from the 50s. This can only be shipped within the USA because of restricted material of rosewood. This is a substantial fabulous signed box of the mid century modern origin.
