19th Century English Faux Tortoise Shell Grain Painted Wooden Dresser Box

About the Item

19th Century English Faux Tortoise Shell Grain Painted Wooden Dresser Box, circa 1830, a Regency style sewing or jewelry box crafted of a hardwood, likely maple, hand painted inside and out as faux tortoise shell, mounted with brass repousse oval escutcheons, fruit basket side bail handles, and lion's paw feet; the hinged lid lifts to reveal a paper-lined fitted compartment, above two doors which reveal two drawers brass repousse rosette pulls. The box remains in very good condition. There are some very old scrapes and a small amount of loss to the painted veneer but over the years those have blended very well into the hue and pattern of the original painted surface.
