19th Century, 1897, Victorian Sterling Silver and Enamel Vesta Case
About the Item
A fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver and enamel envelope style vesta case; an addition to our silver case collection
This fine antique Victorian English sterling silver vesta case has a plain rectangular form.
The body of the case is embellished with an impressive rectangular white enamel panel with one cut corner resembling the curled corner of a sheet of paper.
The decoration to the enamel panel incorporates black script displaying, in an envelope style, ‘Paul E. Schweder’ to the centre and ‘4 Egerton Place. S.W.’ to the lower edge.
This silver and enamel vesta case is fitted with a plain hinged cover to one side and has a serrated panel/match striker to the other.
The posterior surface and ends of the case are plain and unembellished.
Condition
This antique Victorian vesta case is an exceptional gauge of silver, fine quality and in exceptional presentation condition.
There are some surface blemishes in keeping with age; this does not detract from the aesthetically pleasing appearance of the piece.
The enamel is in perfect condition.
Full hallmarks struck to the posterior surface of the case are all very clear.
Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of antique Victorian silverware.
