This is an antique sarcophagus tea caddy. An English, rosewood loose leaf tea case dating to the William IV period, circa 1835. A beautifully proportioned piece with fine detailing, rich tones and elegant Georgian revival design. Delightful William IV period sarcophagus tea caddy, circa 1835 Select rosewood casework displays striking grain interest and deep caramel hues Satinwood stringing provides light contrast, enhancing the bold outline Opens to reveal two lidded tea compartments with a central mixer recess Interior resplendent with scarlet red velvet lining for a luxurious finish Each lid fitted with a circular bone pull, typical of the period style Mix recess accepts glass tumbler up to 10cm (4'') in diameter Fascia inset with a diamond-shaped escutcheon, housing a traditional lock — key present Sides dressed with circular drop handles over decorative fruit basket backplates Stands proudly upon superb ball and claw feet, elevating the sarcophagus form This antique rosewood sarcophagus tea caddy offers fine William IV craftsmanship, perfect for collectors of Georgian tea caddies, decorative boxes, or statement period furniture pieces.
