About the Item

Pair of Empire-period Victory candelabra in marble and gilt bronze, c. 1800 This elegant pair of Empire-period candelabra, dating from around 1800, combines the noble materials of marble and finely worked gilt bronze. Each piece is surmounted by a beautifully modeled winged Victory, a central motif of Neoclassical symbolism, representing triumph and glory. The figures hold aloft delicately chiseled candle branches, their surfaces enriched with intricate palmette decoration, emblematic of the Empire style. The square marble bases are adorned with gilt bronze mounts featuring stylized palmettes and laurel wreaths, further emphasizing the grandeur and refinement of the design. These candelabra are not only decorative but also bear witness to the craftsmanship and aesthetic ideals of the Napoleonic era. Perfectly suited for display on a console or sideboard, they bring timeless classical elegance to any interior.
