About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive pair of antique Edwardian English sterling silver Adams style candlesticks; an addition to our antique silverware collection. These exceptional, fine and impressive antique Edwardian sterling silver candlesticks have an oval form to a knopped tapering column onto an oval spreading base, in the Adams style. These antique silver candlesticks have oval bell-shaped capitals with flared rims, each encompassed with concave fluted decoration accented with a plain girdle. Each candlestick retains the original hallmarked push fit sconce with a reed decorated border to the rim. The knop to the upper portion of each column is encompassed with further reed decoration, reflecting that of the sconces. The tapering knopped column of each candlestick is embellished with concave fluted and reed decoration and surmounts an oval spreading base. The oval spreading bases are ornamented with embossed subtly concave fluted decoration, flanked with further reed decorated borders. The upper surface of each base is further embellished with the contemporary engraved monogram initials 'MMC'. These antique Adams style silver candlesticks have weighted bases and are fitted with green baize to the underside. Condition These Edwardian candlesticks are an excellent gauge of silver, excellent quality and in excellent condition. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of each base, in addition to part hallmarks to the sleeve of each sconce are all very clear.
