About the Item

A Wonderful Antique English Sterling Silver Candlestick holder Date, London 1878-1879 by Maker William Frederick Williams. This late 19th Century Decorative piece has been beautifully crafted. The silver is well engraved depicting both botanical and insect decoration, very much of this period and also replicated in the style of the bamboo carrying handle. The silver is Mounted on a possibly Peruvian decorated Gourd, which also has fine pen work engraving. Botanical engravings on silver from the late 19th century were often influenced by the Aesthetic Movement and Art Nouveau styles, both of which emphasised naturalistic and organic designs. About the designer; William Frederick Williams, an English silversmith known for his work in the 19th century. He was active primarily during the early to mid-1800s, and his work is typically marked with his name and his hallmark. Dimensions; H 6 1/2’ W 4 1/2 “ at centre Base 3 1 /2”
