About the Item

A stunning and most unique French 19th century Louis XVI st. ormolu, patinated bronze and marble clock, stamped Vincent 1855. The clock is raised by fine ormolu supports below the circular marble base decorated with a charming wrap around berried laurel bands and richly chased swaging floral garlands tied with delicate ribbons. At the center are three superb finely detailed maidens draped in flowing fabrics and seemingly holding up the patinated bronze globe above. The globe shaped case displays ormolu Roman numerals, unique and intricately detailed dragon shaped hands and beautiful ormolu stars throughout. Above is a striking and most charming winged cherub floating on a cloud while holding two torches depicting the flame of eternity. All original gilt and patina throughout. Vincent, an acclaimed 19th century bronzier and clock maker, won a silver metal for this model of clock.
