French Louis XVI Style Mid-19th Century Ormolu and Rouge Griotte Marble Clock

About the Item

A stunning and very high quality French mid-19th century Louis XVI st. ormolu and Rouge Griotte marble clock, stamped L. Oudry, Paris. The clock is raised by a thick square Rouge Griotte marble base below the ormolu socle shaped pedestal with a lovely spiral fluted wrap around band. The elegantly shaped clock above displays fine palmette designs at the base and a circular white enameled dial with Roman hour markings, Arabic minute markings, and pierced foliate ormolu hands. The dial displays a wrap around beaded bezel and striking richly chased swaging floral garlands tied with a ribbon and displaying an exquisite satin and burnished finish. To each side are beautiful finely detailed maidens with their hair tied centering the circular fluted support with fitted foliate chandelles. Above is a wrap around beaded band with a fine reeded pattern centering the top richly chased acorn finial. All original gilt and movement.
